Is our Aronia expensive?

A man emailed and asked why our Aronia cost almost twice as much as the one he bought online in a box from Germany earlier.
He refers to the poor supply of Aronia in Sweden. But wonders about ours, why it costs “like wine”, as wine “has a long and costly production process”.

We responded like this:

There is an explanation for why our Aronia costs more than the one you ordered earlier in a box from abroad.
There is a big difference between Aronia and Aronia.
We have recently started to investigate the possibility of selling our juice in Norway. So we check the market there. Aronia is sold at Life and other chains (it seems more famous there than in Sweden). They recommend 1 dl/day as a dose. We recommend 0.5 dl/day. Why is that? Yes, our Aronia is richer in the beneficial substances that are the reason for using Aronia juice. If you consider that our juice is so powerful and concentrated that you only need half the amount to get the same amount of polyphenols, well then it costs per unit volume half as much!

How can our juice be twice as rich in nutrients? There are several reasons. Aroniada (the producer of our juice) is known as the highest quality Aronia producer available. They differ from others in that:

1) They grow their own. The other juices, especially the cheaper ones, are produced in musteries that buy frozen berries from different growers. Naturally, it becomes more difficult to control the quality.
2) They grow organically, always have and there has never been any artificial fertilization or spraying of chemicals on this soil, ever in the history of mankind. It allows for an optimal microclimate that allows the plants to live in symbiosis with the microorganisms in the soil and to take up maximum micronutrients.
3) They press themselves. This allows them to pick the berries and press directly, from bush to bottle in 45 minutes. No long distance transportation, no delay with declining nutrient values, they can pick at the optimal peak of ripeness.
4) They have a proprietary pressing plant. It allows maximum retention of nutrients. Lower filtration rate. Lower temperature when pressing. You can also feel that our juice is more concentrated and has more extract in it.
5) Other companies often mix their juice with water or other juices. From Aroniada you get 100% Aronia.
6) The berries grow in a Mediterranean climate. They get a lot of sun. This means that they are stronger in flavor and contain more beneficial substances than berries grown further north. There’s nothing wrong with Swedish Aronia, but you can taste the difference, it’s thinner and more acidic.
7) They have a long tradition of artisanal Aronia production. They don’t need to preserve the juice, they don’t need to add sweeteners e t c. Aroniada is simply an extremely skilled and quality-oriented producer.

Our Aronia juice is like wine. Just as laborious to make. In fact, Aroniada also makes Aronia wine! I have brought in a couple of bottles for myself but we can’t sell it because of the Swedish monopoly. And yes, the wine and the juice cost the same, the difference is not so great in the labor input of production.

So I dare say that our Aronia juice is actually quite cheap. Because it’s premium Aronia, the finest you can get.
In fact, we sometimes hear from customers who have used it therapeutically for some particular health-related purpose, that they used ours and then switched to buying cheaper Aronia in a box or from abroad “to save money”. They usually end up going back to our Aronia, as they say they feel it “does more good”, so the cheaper one does not have the same effect. We have heard this countless times.
