KDF stands for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion and is a high purity copper-zinc mixture. It works by reacting and exchanging electrons with the harmful chemicals. Electrons are exchanged between the substances (oxidation/reduction) and new, harmless substances are created. Free chlorine, for example, turns into harmless water-soluble chloride salt. Heavy metals, such as copper, lead and mercury, react with the KDF medium and stick to its surface. KDF also has a mild anti-fungal and anti-bacterial action.
KDF filters are usually used in combination with activated carbon, as in this filter. It is a cost-effective method to purify water.

The filter is made for high flow and can withstand high temperatures. It does not slow down the flow when showering or bathing, so you won’t notice much difference when the filter is fitted.
