Rio Amazon Maca 120 capsules
Maca root is sometimes called Amazonian ginseng, or Peruvian ginseng, because, like ginseng root, it is traditionally considered to have a stimulating effect. It is popular among athletes and sportsmen. It is thought to have a positive effect on the hormonal system. It is said to increase skin radiance, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and stimulate cell renewal. Other uses include increasing strength, energy and sexual vitality.
Indian women still use it today to stay healthy and strong, for example when hormone changes are most noticeable, such as before menstruation, after childbirth and breastfeeding, and during menopause. Maca is considered particularly vitalizing for the endocrine system (which produces hormones, among other things). Maca may therefore be useful for women suffering from PMS and menopausal symptoms. It is thought to be beneficial in cases of fatigue and stress caused by imbalances in the endocrine system by acting as an adaptogen (balancer).
MACA is also thought to boost sexual desire and energy in both men and women.
In South America, the roots are eaten raw, cooked or dried. Maca can also be used as a powder. You can open the capsule and sprinkle the powder over your food, in a glass of water or add it to a smoothie. Some people also use it as an ingredient in muesli, pastries or energy bars.
It also contains vitamins C, E and several B vitamins, as well as minerals such as iron, manganese, calcium, selenium and iodine.
What is Maca?
Maca comes from two words in the South American language Guechua, ‘ma’ meaning ‘grown in the mountains’ and ‘ca’ meaning ‘food that strengthens’.
Maca, or Lepidium Meyenii, is a root that grows in the Andes of Peru at an altitude of 3500 to 4500 meters. It has adapted to living in the rather harsh conditions of the Andes, with hot days and cold nights, which is why it is so hardy.
Maca is a root vegetable that looks like a radish or turnip and tastes a bit like a cross between horseradish and parsnip. The plant belongs to the cress genus of the cruciferous family and is related to garden cress and to some extent broccoli or cabbage.
